Women’s Health
In 2023, in response to the dramatic changes in the reproductive laws in our state, the Idaho Physician Well-Being Action Collaborative organized a Women’s Health initiative. We have taken two approaches to protect the health of pregnant women and their families in Idaho:
We have developed an experienced research team to collect, organize and share detailed and relevant data with our local and national communities
We have partnered with local organizations to host and facilitate community conversations to enhance connection, communication and understanding of complicated women’s health issues
Our Research
We have collected and organized pertinent data to detail the impact of current reproductive laws on health outcomes, access to medical care, the physician workforce, medical costs and other factors that affect the health of our community.
Our research team includes local family and OB/GYN physicians, data scientists, health services researchers, an MD statistician, and members of the local chapters of the AAFP, ACOG, and ACEP.
Data sources include commercially available Idaho physician rosters based upon NPIs, professional licensing databases from Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses and the Idaho Department of Insurance, credentialing databases from Idaho insurance companies, the Idaho Medical Association, and local and national chapters of ACOG and AAFP.
As we build a comprehensive database to identify important trends, we are openly sharing the results with our local and national communities so we can work together to support and enhance the health of our physicians, patients and families in Idaho.
Please read our initial report here. Updated research will be available in 2025.
Community Conversations
We have partnered with the IdahoHumanities Council and Braver Angels to host grassroots debates and community conversations throughout Idaho. We gathered via Zoom and in person in an effort to provide Idahoans with unique opportunities to explore the impact of the current reproductive laws on the health and well-being of pregnant women and their families in Idaho. We welcome all community members to share their perspectives and experiences so we can learn from each other, gain insight into the many layers of the complicated issues that we are navigating, and decide how we would like to move forward together to protect the health of pregnant women and their families.. Please see our event page for upcoming community conversations.
